I am going in 2 weeks for my Zoom Whitening and my dentist told me that you don’t always get that "Hollywood smile."

Does anyone know if there is any professional teeth whitening better than Zoom?

As a dental professional, I can attest to the fact that the ZOOM Whitening system is arguably the best process available at the present time.

Results of course, vary… but that’s the case with almost everything. The only way to get a true "Hollywood Smile" would be to go with veneers— but the price is of course considerably more than Zoom.

Does professional tooth whitening harm already sensitive teeth?

as I have receding gums and one of my front teeth is really sensitive at the moment. I am getting married in 2 weeks and would like to have them professionally whitened (gel 4 2 weeks) but feel like it may harm my teeth and make them more sensitive and weak…is this true, will it damage my teeth?

The bleaching process effects patients in different ways, but if you already experience sensitivity in some areas it probably will make them a little more sensitive. I have the same problem and understand completely. I bleached mine about 10 years ago and do a touch up every 4-5 months with the trays using a 22% solution of Nite White for about 30 minutes at a time. One way to bleach with reduced sensitivity is to limit your time, instead of bleaching for an hour, do two 30 minute sessions. One 30 minute session in the morning and then another 30 minutes at bedtime. That way you will reduce the amount of exposure time to the solution per session and have less sensitivity during the day, and then the night time bleaching will allow your teeth all night to recover. We usually recommend reducing the time or skipping a day. This will also let you decide if your teeth can tolerate longer, just increase your time by 10 to 15 minutes each session. You can increase and decrease as you need it. The sensitivity usually last for a few hours to a day at most. You will want all the teeth to be bleached including the area that has some recession on the anterior teeth for ultimate results. To add a desensitizer to the receded area would prevent bleaching or stop the bleaching process. It’s better to reduce the time or see how well you tolerate the solution. There are several different materials with solution strengths to choose from. All of these are safe to use and won’t harm the enamel or the strength of the tooth structure. The bleaching process isn’t suppose to hurt you or your teeth, only whiten them to the brightest possible shade by removing the staining under the many layers of enamel. Your dentist will be better able to provide you with the solution that will cause you the least sensitivity and the best results. Good luck and I’m sure you will enjoy the results for years to come!

Has anyone tried the Rio Professional Teeth Whitening System?
I am referring to the System that you can use at home. I do not mean the cheaper £40 battery operated version. I am referring to the £100 mains operated version.
It comes supplied with peroxide free gels and uses the advanced blue light technology.

If anyone has used this at home system, can you please tell me what your results were.

She is asking for replies only from people that have actually used the system so that she can get a true and balanced judgement about the product.
She hasn’t stated in her question that she intends to use the system, she has just requested for those people who have used it’s opinion. So why are people ignoring the question and stating their views on teeth whitening methods in general rather than on this product in particular.

Granted I haven’t used the product in question, but I do recognise, have experienced and know how hugely annoying it is when people who don’t have neither direct or correct knowledge of the question you are asking, none the less still answer the question anyway. Therefore providing information that is neither relevant or useful to the questioner.

You can find peoples responses to what they think of the product after having purchased it. I usually use this method whenever I want to purchase something but am not sure of how good it is.

You should be very careful using abrasives like baking soda. Once the enamel is gone its gone. Our dentist recommends Crest whitening strips. It works he said as good as the trays with less damage to the enamel. My son’ts teeth are so pretty and white from these.

Depends on what you eat and drink. I just did a project on this in my dental class. The whiteness should last 6 – 9 months depending on what method you used. Right after the whitening you don’t want to eat or drink any harsh foods. But if you’re brushing twice a day, it should last a while… (or at least I hope, because it seems expensive!)

We recommend rinsing your mouth after you eat too, helps extend the whiteness

It varies from dentist to dentists and on your insurance. Expect it to cost A LOT.

The dentist put a gum protector and a gel on my teeth, then used an infrared light for an hour – I got zero results. I’ve tried Creststrips but it makes my teeth too sensitive (for weeks!) My teeth aren’t super awful, just a kind of pale transparent yellow. I want them as white as my eyes, like other people! I even see people on TV with paper-white teeth – I want that! HELP!

Does it hurt to have your teeth professional whitened?

I have extremely sensitive teeth. I have to go back to the dentist because when I had my braces, my teeth weren’t taken care of like they should’ve been and I believe I may have a couple cavities now. Will they get rid of those before bleaching my teeth?

Sorry but don’t listen to anyone that tells you not go see a dentist. If you have cavities or old fillings, you should consider bleaching your teeth first then have those cavities filled. If you have tooth color fillings, those fillings will not be bleach and they will need to be replaced to match to your new tooth color. You should always get professional advise before bleaching your teeth. Also, if your have sensitive teeth you need a dentist to properly prescribe the correct bleaching concentration and bleaching agent.
