Everyone wants to have a nice looking smile, so when a person’s teeth start to get discolored, it is common to look into the options for getting a nice white smile back again. One of the simplest and least expensive methods for getting a whiter smile is to use over the counter teeth whitening kits.
There are a number of different types of teeth whitening kits available. These can be classified into three different types. The first type of whitening kit consists of trays that you add a gel to and then wear over your teeth for a short time each day. This is one of the more common methods. Lately there have been a number of kits introduced that use teeth whitening strips that you can place on your teeth, which is more comfortable and convenient than dealing with trays and gels. Finally, there are kits that contain a brush on solution that you can use to whiten your teeth.
These teeth whitening kits generally give you whiter teeth within one or two weeks of use. The amount of whitening that is achieved depends on the person, as well as the amount of time that it takes in order to see results. Some people will barely see any whitening effect, and others will see a significant change. However, this whitening effect gradually wears off, and the whitening will need to be repeated again. You should only use these products as often as recommended though.
There are some side effects to home teeth whitening kits, however, these are generally pretty mild and they tend to go away within a few days. These include having more sensitive teeth for a while, and possibly some pain in the gums if the whitening agent got onto them.
There are also some types of stains that won’t respond well to whitening, so not all of your teeth coloration problems can be solved this way. Typically these products only work on actual teeth, not fillings or caps. It would be best to speak with a dentist before using these products so that you can make sure that they would help with the problems you wish to address. These also shouldn’t be used by children or women who are nursing or pregnant.
